Phillip Ross, Photographer, Artist, Writer, Musician
I was born in Wakefield in the county of West Yorkshire on a cold November night in 1971, brought up by working class parents in a nice neighbourhood untill I was 12 yrs old, I was then moved to a council estate and as the teenage years progressed found solice in music.
Black Sabbath were the first band I listened to and was inspired by, Their self titled album held a dark prose on the inner sleeve encased in a reversed crucifix, it was this verse that inspired me to write my own poem, as the years passed I wrote my feelings down in poetry, many people who read my earlier works would say to me that they would make great song lyrics, however after a failed attempt at playing guitar and violin when I was younger and only a few lessons on Bass guitar at High school, it wasn't until much later that I would find my talent for the guitar.
I found friendship amongst bikers, they taught me new values in life, brotherhood, respect, honour and justice, each one a knight on a steel stallion bearing differing qualities, each to bestow a lesson upon me.
The road became my new home, hitch hiking became a secondary form of travel, strangers became momentary friends and I found peace, I taught myself how to play the six string and set off on my own journey of enlightenment, traversing between city, town and village I didn't care where I was going as long as I was out there on the road.
Busking was a way of survival, despite having many jobs in my life I found it difficult to stray from the path which kept calling me, the path of the open road.
Along the way I discovered many new talents, taught myself to paint (with the help of a good friend Martin Fowle) and to date have sold 47 paintings my writing became more important to me as I learnt new melodies and chord progressions on the guitar, turning the once paper bound poetry and prose into lyrical and vocal performances.
My most recent discovery is my talent for photography, to date I have held one exhibition at a small library and sold only a few prints but my portfolio is building, as is my reputation for proffessional, technical and creative ability within this field.
My ultimate goal in life is to provide beautiful pieces of art to the world, wether it is written, performed, framed or provided in any other medium.
I am available for photography shoots in the local area only (Wakefield) but will gladly provide any other medium to any part of the world.
